Terrestrials - Bugs Not Born In The Water
I love terrestrial time of year. The number of species of non-aquatic insects is staggering. There are 3500 species of beetles alone. The magic of the Fat Head Beetle is not so much that it is a great imitation of a beetle, but more importantly, it has the oblong shape that the fish see all day during the warm months of summer and fall.
The Fat Head Moth is a favorite big fish terrestrial. I use it from dusk to dark from June to September, and believe me, the fish know what a moth is. The take is vicious.
Terrestrial Patterns:
Magma Ant in Crimson, Fat Head Beetle, Robber Fly, Fat Head Moth
The Magma Ant is a gaudy ant attractor pattern and a “must have” fly for Summer and Fall fishing
